Grays INN

Evaluation

In October we were introduced to our first film-making task! We were told that we had to make our own short film lasting exactly three minute in just three days.  The entire class were split up into small groups, six the maximum, in my group we had Sarah, Waheed, Daniel, Jordan, Akeem and Kennif. Once in groups we had to discuss the roles (post-production) that each one of us had to do in order for the short film to happen. I chose to be the scriptwriter, Sarah the director and Waheed the editor; the others were the cast but were still able to help come up with ideas for our film.

Day one was spent on preparation for our film; we all gathered around to discuss the film title, genre, plot, location, dilemmas ect for the film. In less than two hours we had come up with a horror film naming it ‘Grays Inn’ once the title and genre were confirmed we immidientally began to write down ideas individually for ‘Grays Inn’. Eventually all ideas for the film were approved by Mark and I began to quickly write the scripts with help from my group. I honestly found the scriptwriting easy because the film title and genre were established therefore making the script relevant came naturally. Finally it was time for Mark to show our group the functions of the camera kit such as the fishing rod and the two types of mics, we were shown how to use each equipment  properly; taking turns to demonstrate what Mark had shown us before going off to shoot our film. It was in the hours of 1pm when we had left college to start shooting, Waheed decided on making raw footage for the film because we had to be back in college at 2pm. I really enjoyed the making of our raw footage is was easily done and unrehearsed.

Day two was taken seriously by the group and I, other groups had already started to shoot their film on day one so we were behind. We decided to go to the little square garden down the road from college as our location for the introduction. Sarah held the camera so that to the audience it will come across as shes making her own video diary/video log recording us and speaking to the camera directly to convey this perspective. Shooting went better than I thought it would as we were behind but it turned out that we worked well under pressure. Whilst shooting I would occasionally forget my lines which was annoying very annoying but with the encouragement from my group I strivedthrough my lines making the introduction for ‘Grays Inn’ successful.
